About Survival Knives

When your survival depends on them, survival knives are produced to handle hard circumstances. They are hard use tools and can be put to work for cutting, pulling objects apart, wood carving, self defense, and many other jobs. The Buck Knives The 55 Folding Pocket Knife can potentially be used as a survival knife depending on the situation.

Parts of a Knife

The main parts of the knife are the blade, hilt, handle, tang, and pommel or butt. These main parts can be additionally broken down into their sub parts. The blade includes the tip or point, edge, spine, and bevels. The hilt is the handguard situated between the blade and the grip area. The handle is comprised of the scales (the grippy sides of the handle) and installing hardware. The tang is the piece of metal that runs the full length of the knife from pommel to point. The pommel or end is at the back of the knife (end facing the cutter when held normally in hand).

Fixed Blade VS Folding Survival Knives

There are several various types of knives including fixed blades and folding knives. Common fixed blade knives consist of full-length hunting knives, survival knives, combat knives, and sashimi knives. Folding knives are more compact than fixed blade knives and quickly carried in a pocket for every-day-carry (EDC). The method of how the blade folds into the handle makes it a practical choice for smaller pocket knives.

Buck Knives Knife Blade Care and Maintenance

Buck Knives knives need to be cared for and maintained appropriately to increase their functional life as a cutting tool. Blade maintenance includes occasionally sharpening the edge with a grinder, whetstone, or diamond sharpener and rubbing the blade down with a light coat of oil.

Knife Laws and Bladed Weapon Carry Regulations

A large number of states, regions, and locations have policies about wearing knives and bladed weapons. Some of these weapon associated laws may apply to the Buck Knives The 55 Folding Pocket Knife. The laws depend on things like the type of knife, how the knife is carried, the blade length, and the places where the knife is carried. There are a few basic rules you can follow when carrying a blade.

Be careful carrying knives concealed because this classifies the knife as a concealed carry weapon (CCW). Some states have guidelines limiting particular things like blade lengths over 3 inches. For fixed blade knives, carry them on your belt when you are working outside, camping, exploring, or out adventuring in the outdoors.

For folding blade knives, again take care of possessing folding blade lengths over 3 inches hidden on your body. If your area or state requires it, look into getting a CCW license. Knives which have assisted opening capabilities or automatic opening knives are normally limited.

Take care possessing knives in areas around federal government buildings, educational institutions, and public events. The majority of special events like sporting events, county fairs, and shows do not allow knives of any kind and security will take them upon entry.
