Folding Survival Knife Product Features:

WIDE SPECTRUM OF HANDLE COLORS – The Delica 4 now offers new vibrant tones including blue, green, brown, gray, orange, zome green, black and purple.
SUPERIOR BLADE STEEL – The blades are full flat-ground VG-10 Steel with a thinner highly refined cutting edge and a larger 13mm opening hole.
ULTRA-LIGHTWEIGHT – Inside the handle are dual skeletonized stainless steel liners which strengthen the knife without additional weight and double as an anchor for external and internal components to attach through generating more sturdiness.
ERGONOMIC – Added to the blade’s spine is slip resistant jimping. Phosphor bronze washers smooth out the open/close action and the clip is upgraded to a four-way tip-up, tip-down, left-or right-handed clip.
A SECURE GRIP – Molded onto the FRN handle’s surface is Bi-Directional Texturing for slip-free tactile traction. It provides resistance to slipping in the hand.
A Bit About Spyderco
Spyderco was founded in 1976 by Sal and Gail Glesser. Initially, the company focused on selling our first product the Tri-Angle Sharpmaker primarily at fairs and trade shows around the country in their Bread Truck. In 1981, the Glessers put down roots in Golden, Colorado and introduced the first Spyderco folding knife. That knife pioneered the concept of a round hole in the blade for one-handed opening, a clip on the handle for carrying at the top of the pocket, and the option of a serrated edge for aggressive cutting performance. Those features revolutionized the knife industry and literally defined the form of the modern folding knife.

DELICA 4
RELIABLE HIGH PERFORMANCE
The Delica has been a mainstay of the Spyderco product line since its introduction in 1990. It and its larger counterpart, the Endura, pioneered the concept of lightweight, clip-carry, one-handed folding knives and were instrumental in popularizing fiberglass-reinforced nylon (FRN) as a handle material.
In 2006, the Delica was completely redesigned to yield the current Delica4. To increase strength while keeping weight to a minimum, its handle features skeletonized stainless steel liners encased within FRN scales boasting Spydercos Bi-Directional Texturing pattern for a superior grip.
Following the introduction of the saber-ground Delica4 with a black FRN handle, Spyderco introduced a version featuring the Emerson opening feature for quick deployment, a flat-ground version with a premium ZDP-189 blade, and a series of flat-ground VG-10 Delicas with different colored FRN handles.

About Survival Knives

Survival knives are produced for difficult problems when your life relies on them. They are tough use tools and can be put to work for cutting, pulling objects apart, carving, self defense, and many other jobs. The Spyderco Delica 4 Lightweight 7.15 Signature Folding Knife with 2.90 Flat-Ground Steel Blade and High-Strength FRN Handle – PlainEdge Grind can potentially work as a survival knife depending on the situation.

Parts of a Knife

The main parts of the knife are the blade, hilt, handle, tang, and pommel or butt. The tang is the piece of metal that runs the full length of the knife from pommel to tip. The pommel or butt is at the rear of the knife (end facing the cutter when held commonly in hand).

Fixed Blade VS Folding Survival Knives

There are several different kinds of knives including fixed blades and folding knives. Fixed blades are typically better for big cutting jobs. The sturdiness of the blade assists the cutter control the knife edge more effectively, and the blade generally holds up better over the long run. Common fixed blade knife types include full-length hunting knives, backpacking knives, battle knives, and kitchen knives. Folding knives are more compact than fixed blade knives and quickly kept in a pocket for every-day-carry (EDC). The technique of how the blade folds into the handle makes it a useful option for smaller sized blades. Some folding knives have lockouts that help keep the blade in position when unfolded. This simulates a fixed blade while keeping the benefits of a folder. Lockouts are mechanical and can fail if intense pressure is applied to the folding knife blade.

Spyderco Knife Blade Care and Maintenance

Spyderco knives need to be taken care of and maintained correctly to optimize their useful life as a cutting tool. Try to keep the knife blade dry and away from water whenever possible. Blade upkeep includes occasionally sharpening the edge with a grinder, diamond, or whetstone sharpener and rubbing the blade down with a light coat of oil. Make sure the edge is free of any chips or nicks and deburr any deformities.

Knife Laws and Bladed Weapon Carry Laws

Lots of states, regions, and locations have guidelines about wearing knives and bladed weapons. Some of these weapon associated laws might apply to the Spyderco Delica 4 Lightweight 7.15 Signature Folding Knife with 2.90 Flat-Ground Steel Blade and High-Strength FRN Handle – PlainEdge Grind. The laws depend on things like the type of knife, how the knife is carried, the blade length, and possession places where the knife is carried. There are a few general guidelines you can follow when carrying a blade.

Be careful possessing knives which are concealed because this classifies the knife as a concealed carry weapon (CCW). Some states have guidelines restricting specific things like blade lengths over 3 inches. For fixed blade knives, carry them on your belt when you are working outside, backpacking, hiking, or out adventuring in the outdoors.

For folding blade knives, again beware of carrying folding blade lengths over 3 inches hidden. Look into getting a CCW license if your region or state requires it. Knives which use assisted opening abilities or automatic openers are generally limited too.

Beware possessing knives in areas around government buildings, schools, and public gatherings. The majority of special occasions like sporting events, county fairs, and performances do not allow knives of any kind and security will take them upon entry.
