A Bit About Spyderco
Spyderco was founded in 1976 by Sal and Gail Glesser. Initially, the company focused on selling our first product the Tri-Angle Sharpmaker primarily at fairs and trade shows around the country in their Bread Truck. In 1981, the Glessers put down roots in Golden, Colorado and introduced the first Spyderco folding knife. That knife pioneered the concept of a round hole in the blade for one-handed opening, a clip on the handle for carrying at the top of the pocket, and the option of a serrated edge for aggressive cutting performance. Those features revolutionized the knife industry and literally defined the form of the modern folding knife.

ENDURA 4
CRAFTED FOR LIFE
Released in 1990, the original Spyderco Endura and its smaller counterpart, the Delica, literally redefined the concept of todays folding knife. As the very first lightweight, clip-carry, one-hand-opening folders, they set a new standard. The fourth-generation Endura continues to set the standard as one of the best-selling folding knives ever made. In the process, it has also spawned an entire family of variations to meet virtually every users needs and preferences.
The direct descendants of the original model, Endura 4 Lightweights feature skeletonized stainless steel liners and injection-molded fiberglass-reinforced-nylon (FRN) handles. They come in a full spectrum of colors and a variety of different grinds, edge configurations, and blade steels.
Specialized versions include one with an Emerson Opening Feature that automatically opens the blade as the knife is drawn, a blunted red-handled trainer, and all-new hand-dyed Zome versions with multicolored handles.

About Survival Knives

Survival knives are manufactured to handle challenging problems when your life depends on them. They are tough use tools and can be put to work for cutting, pulling objects apart, carving, self-defense, and lots of other tasks. The Spyderco Endura 4 Lightweight Signature Folder Knife with 3.80 VG-10 Steel Blade and Brown FRN Handle – PlainEdge Grind – C10FPBN can potentially work as a survival knife in certain situations.

Parts of a Knife

The primary parts of the knife are the blade, hilt, grip, tang, and pommel or butt. The tang is the piece of metal that runs the complete length of the knife from pommel to tip. The pommel or butt is at the rear of the knife (end toward the cutter when held typically in hand).

Fixed Blade VS Folding Survival Knives

There are several assorted types of knives including fixed blades and folding knives. Common fixed blade knives consist of full-length camping knives, survival knives, combat knives, and kitchen knives. Folding knives are more compact than fixed blade knives and easily carried in a pocket for every-day-carry (EDC). The technique of how the blade folds into the handle makes it a useful alternative for smaller sized pocket knives. Some folding knives have lockouts that help keep the blade in position when unfolded. This imitates a fixed blade while keeping the advantages of a folder. Keep in mind that lockouts are mechanical and can fail if intense pressure is applied to the folding knife blade.

Spyderco Knife Blade Care and Upkeep

Spyderco knives must be looked after and maintained effectively to maximize their usefulness as a cutting tool. Try to keep the knife blade dry and away from water whenever possible. Blade maintenance consists of sometimes honing the edge with a whetstone, diamond, or grinder sharpener and rubbing the blade down with a light coat of oil. Make sure the edge is free of any nicks or chips and deburr any defects.

Knife Laws and Bladed Weapon Carry Regulations

Many states, regions, and areas have policies about wearing knives and bladed weapons. Some of these weapon associated laws may apply to the Spyderco Endura 4 Lightweight Signature Folder Knife with 3.80 VG-10 Steel Blade and Brown FRN Handle – PlainEdge Grind – C10FPBN. The laws depend upon things like the kind of knife, how the knife is carried, the blade length, and the places where the knife is carried. When carrying a blade, there are a couple of basic guidelines you can follow.

Beware possessing knives which are hidden considering that this classifies the knife as a concealed carry weapon (CCW). Some states have standards limiting specific things like blade lengths over 3 inches. For fixed blade knives, carry them on your belt when you are working outside, backpacking, exploring, or out adventuring in the outdoors.

For folding blade knives, once again beware of possessing folding blade lengths over 3 inches concealed. If your area or state requires it, look into getting a CCW license. Knives which have assisted opening abilities or auto openers are usually restricted as well.

Beware carrying knives in places around federal government buildings, schools, and public gatherings. Most special occasions like sporting events, county fairs, and shows do not allow knives of any kind and security will seize them upon entry.
