A Bit About Spyderco
Spyderco was founded in 1976 by Sal and Gail Glesser. Initially, the company focused on selling our first product the Tri-Angle Sharpmaker primarily at fairs and trade shows around the country in their Bread Truck. In 1981, the Glessers put down roots in Golden, Colorado and introduced the first Spyderco folding knife. That knife pioneered the concept of a round hole in the blade for one-handed opening, a clip on the handle for carrying at the top of the pocket, and the option of a serrated edge for aggressive cutting performance. Those features revolutionized the knife industry and literally defined the form of the modern folding knife.

ENDURA 4
CRAFTED FOR LIFE
Released in 1990, the original Spyderco Endura and its smaller counterpart, the Delica, literally redefined the concept of todays folding knife. As the very first lightweight, clip-carry, one-hand-opening folders, they set a new standard. The fourth-generation Endura continues to set the standard as one of the best-selling folding knives ever made. In the process, it has also spawned an entire family of variations to meet virtually every users needs and preferences.
The direct descendants of the original model, Endura 4 Lightweights feature skeletonized stainless steel liners and injection-molded fiberglass-reinforced-nylon (FRN) handles. They come in a full spectrum of colors and a variety of different grinds, edge configurations, and blade steels.
Specialized versions include one with an Emerson Opening Feature that automatically opens the blade as the knife is drawn, a blunted red-handled trainer, and all-new hand-dyed Zome versions with multicolored handles.

About Survival Knives

Survival knives are created to handle hard problems when your survival relies on them. They are tough use tools and can be used for cutting, prying, carving, self defense, and lots of other tasks. The Spyderco Endura 4 Lightweight Signature Folder Knife with 3.80 VG-10 Steel Blade and Brown FRN Handle – PlainEdge Grind – C10FPBN can possibly work as a survival knife in certain situations.

Components of a Knife

The primary components of the survival knife are the blade, hilt, handle, tang, and pommel or butt. These key pieces can be further broken down into their sub parts. The blade consists of the tip or point, edge, spine or back, and bevels. The hilt is the handguard attached in between the blade and the handle. The handle consists of the scales (the grippy sides of the handle) and installing hardware. The tang is the piece of metal that runs the whole length of the knife from pommel to point. The pommel or butt is at the rear of the knife (end facing the cutter when held usually in hand).

Fixed Blade VS Folding Survival Knives

There are a number of assorted types of knives including fixed blades and folding knives. Typical fixed blade knives include full-length camping knives, survival knives, fighting knives, and sushi knives. Folding knives are more compact than fixed blade knives and quickly carried in a pocket for every-day-carry (EDC). The way the blade folds into the handle makes it a practical alternative for smaller sized blades. Some folding knives have lockouts that assist keep the blade in position when unfolded. This imitates a fixed blade while keeping the advantages of a folder. Lockouts are mechanical and can fail if extreme pressure is applied to the folding knife blade.

Spyderco Knife Blade Care and Maintenance

Spyderco knives must be looked after and maintained appropriately to optimize their usefulness as a cutting tool. Attempt to keep the knife blade dry whenever possible. Blade upkeep consists of sometimes honing the edge with a grinder, whetstone, or diamond sharpener and rubbing the blade down with a light coat of oil. Make sure the edge is free of any chips or nicks and deburr any defects.

Knife Laws and Bladed Weapon Carry Regulations

Some of these weapon associated laws may apply to the Spyderco Endura 4 Lightweight Signature Folder Knife with 3.80 VG-10 Steel Blade and Brown FRN Handle – PlainEdge Grind – C10FPBN. For fixed blade knives, carry them on your belt when you are working outside, camping outdoors, fishing, or out adventuring in the outdoors.

For folding blade knives, once again be careful of carrying folding blade lengths over 3 inches hidden. If your region or state requires it, look into getting a CCW license. Knives which have assisted opening abilities or automatic opening knives are typically limited.

Take care carrying knives in places around federal government buildings, educational institutions, and public events. A lot of special events like sporting events, county fairs, and shows do not permit knives of any kind and security will seize them upon entry.
