A Bit About Spyderco
Spyderco was founded in 1976 by Sal and Gail Glesser. Initially, the company focused on selling our first product the Tri-Angle Sharpmaker primarily at fairs and trade shows around the country in their Bread Truck. In 1981, the Glessers put down roots in Golden, Colorado and introduced the first Spyderco folding knife. That knife pioneered the concept of a round hole in the blade for one-handed opening, a clip on the handle for carrying at the top of the pocket, and the option of a serrated edge for aggressive cutting performance. Those features revolutionized the knife industry and literally defined the form of the modern folding knife.
COMPACT AND RELIABLE
One of Spyderco’s smallest lightweight knife is the Ladybug, so small it attaches to your keychain and is nearly as small as your car keys. Made of VG-10 stainless steel, this modified clip-point blade style is matched up with a lightweight handle of fiberglass-reinforced nylon making the entire knife weigh only 0.6 of an ounce (16.4 grams). The Ladybug doesn’t have a clip but rather a lanyard hole for attachment to a keychain or lanyard. Like its larger counterparts (and all Spyderco knives) the Ladybug 3 packs tremendous cutting power and can take on both fine and heavy cutting tasks. The Ladybug 3 FRN is available in the following colors: Black, Foliage Green, Purple, Blue.

The hilt is the handguard found in between the blade and the grip area. The handle is made up of the scales (the grippy sides of the handle) and installing hardware. The tang is the piece of metal that runs the whole length of the knife from pommel to point. Lastly, the pommel or butt is at the back of the knife (end facing the cutter when held usually in hand).
Fixed Blade VS Folding Survival Knives
There are a number of different types of knives consisting of fixed blades and folding knives. Typical fixed blade knives include full-length hunting knives, survival knives, fighting knives, and kitchen knives. Folding knives are more compact than fixed blade knives and quickly carried in a pocket for every-day-carry (EDC). The way the blade folds into the grip makes it a practical choice for smaller pocket knives.
Spyderco Knife Blade Care and Upkeep
Spyderco knives must be looked after and maintained properly to maximize their usefulness as a cutting tool. Try to keep the knife blade dry whenever possible. Blade maintenance consists of sometimes honing the edge with a grinder, whetstone, or diamond sharpener and rubbing the blade down with a light coat of oil. Double check that the edge is devoid of any chips or nicks and deburr any defects.
