Whole Earth Supply Extra Large – Black 1095 Carbon Steel Tracker Blank Blade Knives Knife Blanks
Important Notes: We also sell an extra large leather sheath that fits this item (sold separately). The sheath must say “EXTRA LARGE” in the title, in order to fit this blank. As this item is very large, we do not offer handle material that fits it. It will require 5-1/2″ x 2″ handle material, if you want to make the handle using just one piece on each side. You may, however, use several pieces of our 5″ x 1.5″ handle material to make up the handle.
This beautiful blade is handmade from high quality 1095 steel and black powder coated for protection against the elements and a unique look. 1095 is a high carbon steel (not a stainless steel) commonly used in heavy duty tools. It can carry an extremely sharp edge. 1095 makes great steel for heavy duty choppers and survival knives because of its extreme durability and resistance to chipping, easy sharpening and edge retention. It is much tougher than premium stainless steels. Because it is a high carbon steel, it is very important to keep it clean and oiled. Take extra care to a knife made of 1095 out of its sheath (this is a good idea for all knives) and keep a thin layer of lubricant on the steel.
This knife blank is custom designed by us and 100% hand-forged.
Blank filework may vary or be absent. We try to keep them all consistent but sometimes the filework may vary or be absent.

About Survival Knives

Components of a Knife

The blade includes the tip or point, edge, spine or back, and bevels. The hilt is the handguard attached in between the blade and the grip. The handle consists of the scales (the grippy sides of the handle) and scale securing hardware. The tang is the piece of metal that runs the complete length of the knife from pommel to point. Finally, the pommel or butt is at the rear of the knife (end facing the knife handler when held typically in hand).

Fixed Blade VS Folding Survival Knives

There are several various kinds of knives including fixed blades and folding knives. Fixed blades are typically much better for large cutting jobs. The strength of the blade assists the cutter control the knife edge more effectively, and the blade usually holds up better over the long term. Common fixed blade knife types include full-length hunting knives, outdoor knives, combat knives, and sushi knives. Folding knives are more compact than fixed blade knives and easily carried in a pocket for every-day-carry (EDC). The method of how the blade folds into the handle makes it a practical alternative for smaller sized pocket knives.

Knife Laws and Bladed Weapon Carry Laws

Lots of states, regions, and areas have policies about possessing knives and bladed weapons.
